We believe that our democracy only works when it’s working for all of us. Wealthy donors have rigged the rules of our democracy in their favor, and that’s why we need leaders who are ready to stand up and fight for a democracy of, by, and for the people. This summer, over a dozen groups are launching the Fix Democracy Now campaign from July 29th to August 4th to encourage candidates running at every level of elected office from City Hall to Congress to campaign on their plans to create a democracy that works for all of us.
This election season, voters have the opportunity to elect a new generation of leaders more reflective of and responsive to the concerns of everyday Americans. With record numbers of women, young, minority, and first-time candidates running for office, there is energy and enthusiasm to elect state legislators, members of Congress, and city councilmembers who not only look more like the rest of us but also will fight to fix our broken democracy that caters to the wealthy and powerful. During the Fix Democracy Now week, candidates will highlight their plans to fix democracy including reducing the influence of big donors, protecting access to the ballot, and drawing fair district lines.
Fix Democracy Now is a project of Every Voice, with the support of Center for Popular Democracy Action, Demos, EMERGE, End Citizens United, Indivisible, Latino Victory Fund, Mayday, MoveOn.org, NextGen, Our Revolution, Patriotic Millionaires, Progressive Change Campaign Committee, Run For Something, Working Families Party, and a coalition of organizations dedicated to creating an accountable and inclusive democracy.
